Indiana high school juniors and seniors who excel in science and math will learn practical methods to start a business during an annual event held at the Purdue Research Park.
During the fourth annual Purdue Research Park Entrepreneurship Academy on June 20-26, selected students will test the viability of a business idea, identify capital needs to start a company and devise a management plan. The Entrepreneurship Academy was honored in May with the 2010 Incubator Innovation of the Year Award by the National Business Incubation Association.
"These students, who are among the brightest in the state, have expressed an interest in developing their entrepreneurial skills," academy director Tim Peoples said. "They will learn from business leaders in the Greater Lafayette area and the Purdue Research Foundation, and experience living at a world-class university campus during this weeklong program."
Wendy Kennedy, a technology industry executive, will teach entrepreneurial procedures based on her methodology called "So what? who cares? why you?"
At the conclusion of the academy, teams of five students will present a 15-minute investor pitch to a panel of judges in a business plan competition setting. The winning teams will receive tuition vouchers to attend Purdue University.
