Veterans Day Observance to be held at Purdue Calumet Tuesday, November 11

PUC-LogoPurdue University Calumet will observe Veterans Day Tuesday (11/11) with a flag raising ceremony, followed by a panel discussion of local military veterans.

The flag ceremony at the flag pole west of Lawshe Hall on Woodmar Avenue north of 173rd Street is at 8 a.m. The ceremonial flag actually flew over the Pentagon. It is being raised in honor and memory of Patricia Grady, a former Purdue Calumet Admissions staff member and U.S. Air Force veteran, who died earlier this year after an illness.

The observance continues at 9 a.m. in Alumni Hall on the third floor of the Student Union & Library, where four local military veterans—Victor Baker (Viet Nam), Michael Kesl (Iraq), Andrew Hasty (Iraq) and Phil Campbell (Viet Nam)—will reflect on their military experiences. Video clips also will be presented.

Refreshments will be served.

The observance is sponsored by the university’s From Boots to Books: Veterans & Student Service Members Academic Support Program.
