VHS Boys’ Tennis Upends Culver Academy Over the Weekend

The Valparaiso High School boys’ tennis team pulled an upset special over the weekend, as the Vikings defeated the 14th-ranked Culver Academy team to capture the victory.

The Vikings won 3-2 in the match, winning all three of their singles match-ups, but falling in doubles competitions. Valpo’s Ben Kalisch defeated Wilso Wu 6-4, 6-3, while Marty Pochop defeated Quinlam Smith 6-2, 6-4. Adam Crookston also was victorious 6-0, 6-4 for the Vikings.

In doubles play, the Viking team of Quinn Donnell and John Olenjnicak fell to Culver’s team of Eric Muudhurt and Will Stackhouse 6-3, 6-2. Valpo’s Tyler Costas and Domi Szabo lost to Jack Mitzell and Aaron Arvizu 6-2, 6-3.

Valparaiso’s record increased to 10-1 on the season as the Vikings remain undefeated in Duneland Athletic Conference play with their 5-0 record. The boys’ tennis team will test that undefeated record on the road on September 20th as they face off against the Portage Indians in their final DAC battle on the season.
