VHS Student Wins Scholarship From DoSomething.org

adam-shoemaker-vhsCongratulations to Valparaiso High School Senior Adam Shoemaker for being selected by DoSomething.org, one of the largest organizations in the U.S. for young people social change, as a scholarship winner! Adam was chosen because of his outstanding commitment to social change.

He just won a scholarship for our Love Letters campaign, using his creativity to brighten the day of local seniors with handmade Valentines. He's taking home $4,000 to help pay for college!

Adam was asked to tell us about himself and why he participated in the campaign, and here's what he said:

"I currently have been volunteering at Dish restaurant in Valparaiso, IN, shadowing the chefs in their kitchen. I am involved with the Love Letters campaign as well as Teens for Jeans. Both of these causes are important to me because they help people in my community.

I will be attending The Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York this fall, and my hope is to get training from world class chefs and become a great chef myself one day."

We also asked him what Crayola crayon color he would be, and he said Macaroni & Cheese "because I am in the food service industry. Plus, macaroni and cheese is one of my favorite foods."
