The Valparaiso High School football team rose to seventh in Region Sports Network after holding their own in a loss on the road at Penn High School last week. The Vikings will host Carmel on Friday night to kick of their home schedule.

7. Valpo Vikings (0-1; Last Week: #8)
It’s the rare occasion when a team moves up the poll after losing, but count us impressed with Valparaiso in Week #1. The Vikings played the 2011 5A runner-up Penn Kingsmen tough on the road, falling by only a touchdown. Oddly enough, Valpo could fall to 0-2 and still remain in the poll as the team that beat Penn in the state finals last year, Carmel, comes to Vikingland Friday. Losing to both Penn and Carmel, but keeping them close could make the Vikings the most impressive winless team in the state.
