Volunteer Appreciation Event Thursday, June 26th

Tobacco-education-prevention-logoThe Tobacco Education & Prevention Coalition for Porter County is having a Volunteer Appreciation event at Zao Island on Thursday, June 26, 2014 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Volunteers will be celebrating 13 years of success for their work in tobacco prevention and cessation.

Special presentation will be made to those providers and organizations that have been outstanding in the past year in regard to tobacco cessation activities, particularly those utilizing referral services to the Indiana Tobacco Quitline.

Awards will be presented the following:

  • Northshore Health Centers has led the county in fax referrals to the Indiana Tobacco Quitline. In particular, we thank Dr. Kamaljeet Girn, who has, for the past several years, been one of our physician champions who strives to improve the health of his patients by assisting them in quitting their addiction to tobacco.
  • HealthLinc has made significant progress toward developing a system change to automatically send referrals to the Indiana Tobacco Quitline utilizing their electronic health records
  • Porter-Starke Services is the community organization that has the most referrals to the Indiana Tobacco Quitline. They have worked closely with Tobacco Education & Prevention Coalition for Porter County to train staff about tobacco cessation.
  • Porter Regional Hospital is working with employers in the county to incorporate information and referrals to the Indiana Tobacco Quitline into wellness programs.

We applaud this year’s award recipients and thank them for their service.
