Volunteers needed for VNA’s Lorie’s Lakeside Century

VNA-Art-Barn-RidersAre you looking for something fun to do on Saturday, September 15th? The Visiting Nurse Association of Porter County is looking for volunteers from the community to help with their annual bicycle tour event, Lorie’s Lakeside Century.

Lorie’s Lakeside Century, formerly known as Lorie’s Ride, offers 15, 28, 38 and 62 mile routes, as well as a full 100-mile route to New Buffalo, IN, starting at Liberty Bible Church in Chesterton. Riders come back year after year and are joined by new riders interested in a great ride in memory of Lorie Kirkley that supports the programs and services of the Visiting Nurse Association.

Registration opens at 7:00 a.m. and the course will close at 5:00 p.m. Volunteers are needed to help in a variety of ways:

  • set-up, registration, T-shirt sales, breakfast, lunch, scooping ice cream, and clean-up at the church
  • rest stops at the Art Barn, Lakeshore (Beverly Shores), New Buffalo and Garwood Orchard (help serve food, greet riders)
  • route drivers (to check on riders; gas money provided)
  • route runners (stationed at Ride headquarters to make deliveries to Rest Stops as needed).

Most volunteer sign-up times are in 2-hour increments but are flexible with volunteers’ availability. Besides the fun and satisfaction of helping a good cause – the VNA, volunteers also receive a free Lorie’s Lakeside Century t-shirt and food!
