Wanna Start Your Own Business?

Do you ever dream about one day being the Boss Man? How about having a place where you have the say-so? Do you ever wonder if you could do what you love for money? Then, small business ownership may be right for you.

One place that can help you figure that out is the Northwest Indiana Small Business Development Center otherwise known as NWISBDC. They offer multitudes of options to help you get off your feet or expand such as one-on-one business consulting, special events, and seminars - online and in-person - that can answer your questions and give you a direction in which to go in pursuing your business. Their introductory workshop entitled "Launching Your Own Business" is essentially a business feasibility class where potential entrepreneurs can find answers from figuring out whether or not they should pursue starting their own business to taking a first step in finding funding sources for their start-up.

"You get people with potential businesses of all shapes and sizes," said Todd Dickard, who was an instructor at this particular seminar and also a commercial realtor. "You get people who have a dream and not much else and you get people who are already doing business."

The industries that the attendees desired to enter into business in were a smattering of telecommunications, entertainment, and a host of others. A small group of men and women were in attendance that had aspirations that one day their business would be doing work overseas.

"This seminar has given me a good idea of how much information I need to get and what a business plan needs to be," Remington O'Guin commented during a brief break. O'Guin is a young entrepreneur who has high aspirations to start a ski resort. "This seminar has given me a lot of good resources," he said.

"For $25, which is not that much money, it's a great way to get exposure to our program and our resources, and it [doesn't take that much time either]," said Dickard. "Some people think that starting a business is easy. You have to do your homework."
