Washington Township Elementary News: Ice Cream Social, Variety Show, and UR Unique Day

washington-township-logoFROM THE PRINCIPAL....

Dear Parents, Students, & Staff,

We received work this week that we had achieved 4- Star School status for the 2009-2010 school year (last year's ISTEPs). This is the 3rd year in a row WTE has won this award. Only 202 schools in Indiana, out of 1800+, achieved this honor. The criteria is based on the passing rates for ISTEP scores in grades 3-5 and has recently changed. It used ot be based on a school's overall passing rate for both subjects (LA & Math), as well as it's achievement rate (average score) as well as attendance. Now it's just the passing rate for both subjects, but every single grade level has to be in the top 25% in the state. If one grade level doesn't make the cut the school does not win the award. Each elementary school in EPCSC made the list this year. It's quite an accomplishment for a school corporation! (Only one in Porter County to do so.) So, congratulations to everyone for your efforts to make this school a great place for students to learn.

Sincerely, Rik Ihssen

OREO CHALLENGE

Tuesday, March 15 begins our annual event, the Oreo Challenge, that students and staff look forward to. I’ll get on the PA each morning and give some clues about our staff. If the class guesses 2 out of 3 correctly, they get an Oreo cookie. Classes that get 10 points win free ice cream.

UR UNIQUE DAY MARCH 18TH

The dress-up day for this month centers around the idea of each person's uniqueness. Try to think of something to wear on Friday, March 18 that makes you special or unique. It could be your favorite color, sport, or hobby. Or, make a wacky combination that no one else would think of. This is a day to celebrate our differences and uniqueness.
