Washington Township Elementary Says Goodbye, Basketball, and Mileage Club Update

WTES Says Good Bye...

We're very sad to say goodbye to Mrs. Diane Morton, our STAR Reading teacher who will be leaving us next week to move to California (job transfer for husband). Mrs. Morton is the one primarily responsible for setting up our Tier 1-3 Response To Intervention program that handles our remedial reading and math instruction (STAR Reading and IMath). She took on a very difficult assignment of developing the program along the new guidelines of the federal government and created a dynamic learning program that kids like to attend. A good portion of our high passing rates can be attributed to the success of this program. Mrs. Kari Hinkle, her current assistant, will take over for Mrs. Morton and a new teacher's aide, Miss Nicole Buffa will fill Mrs. Hinkle's spot. So, goodbye Mrs. Morton, and thanks for all the wonderful things you did for kids at WTES.

Sen. Ed Charbonneau: Area parents can pledge commitment to children's success!

Indiana's "Parent Pledge" will help celebrate parents, grandparents and other caretakers who are already contributing to student successes while encouraging others to get involved with children's academic achievement. A student's success relies greatly on the important partnership between parents and educators. This is one way parents can show teachers that learning will not stop at the end of the school day and they are committed to making education a priority at home. The pledge emphasizes principles like reading every day, completing homework, attending school and cooperating with educators.

Parents can sign the pledge at: www.doe.in.gov/parent pledge or at one of the more than 80 participating schools.

Intramural Basketball For Elementary Students

WTES is hosting an Intramural Basketball program for boys and girls that attend WTES. Coaches and team members from the boys and girls high school teams are helping. The focus in on getting kids moving and for the kids to learn the fundamentals of the game in a 100% positive environment. The children who practice with other children similar in age, work on drills for most of the 1 hour Saturday morning practice, but end with a short 3 on 3 game before the hour is up. The kids will have a chance to play a game during halftime of one of the high school basketball games this fall. See the attached photos for some of the action.
