Washington Township Wins 12th Annual WTMS Academic Invitational

Washington_Township_Wins_12th_Annual_WTM-1The Washington Township Middle School Academic Team won their 5th consecutive Washington Township Academic Invitational presented by Blythe's Athletics on Saturday, April 2. Led by wins from their Social Studies, Math and Interdisciplinary teams, and a second place finish by their Science Team, Team Senator Red won the team title by defeating Team Senator Black 92-82. Schools that participated in the 12th Annual WTMS Academic Invitational were Ben Franklin Middle School, Hanover Central Middle School, Hobart Middle School, River Forest Middle School and Union Township Middle School. "Hoosier Heritage" was the theme to this year's academic competitions.

WTMS Team Senator Black also had a strong showing on Saturday winning Science and placing second in Social Studies and Interdisciplinary.

Subject Winners

WTMS Team Red won the Mathematics competition. Team members included: Maddy Evans-Captain, Valerie Churchill, Michael Boyd, Evan Bell

Ben Franklin Middle School won the English competition. Team members included: Jenna Thayer-Captain, Ashley Graegin, Anthony Grisolano, Matthew Olson, Alyssa Witvoet

WTMS Team Black won the Science competition. Team members included: Jennifer Cahillane-Captain, Katie Evans, JJ Stewart

WTMS Team Read won the Interdisciplinary competition. Team members included: Maddy Evans-Captain, Valerie Churchill, Tyler Peters, Alyssa Suprenant

All of the middle schools participating in the WTMS Academic Invitational will compete in the Indiana Association of School Principals (IASP) Academic Super Bowl Regional competition on Saturday, April 30th. Ben Franklin (Class 1), Union Township (Class 3) and Washington Township (Class 4) will compete at LaPorte High School. Hanover Central (Class 2), Hobart (Class 1) and River Forest (Class 3) will compete at Merrillville Pierce Middle School.
