Water Games Support World Relief Campaign

Water-Campaign-2013-1Each year, Valparaiso University President Mark Heckler and Provost Mark Schwehn compete in a friendly competition to support SALT's (Social Action Leadership Team) World Relief Campaign. The goal for the current campaign is to raise $15,000 for a tech grant to an Indian reservation located in the poorest zip code in the country. The grant will support reading programs at the elementary and middle school levels.

For this campaign, the President and Provost issued a challenge of raising $2,000 in a week. If achieved, the two would step out of their comfort zone and compete in the “games” on April 12th, with the loser receiving a pie to the face. “I love the cause and think the students do a great job,” shared Provost Schwehn. “I’m always glad to support the campaign. Every year is a new adventure.”

This year's events featured a Water Games Olympiad, a series of tough challenges, such as archery and a hula hoop competition, with the cool, wet weather squelching the use of water in the games. Though a close race, Provost Schwehn took the winning title, leaving President Heckler with a pie to the face!
