We All Need Some TLC!

Mental-Health-America-Porter-CountyDo you care for or about someone that is living with a mental health issue? Does this leave you feeling run down? Tired all the time? Irritable? You need to take care of yourself so that you can continue to care for your loved ones. Mental Health America of Porter County is proud to offer you Together we Learn to Cope (TLC). This support group is for family members and friends of individuals who are living with a mental illness. Mental Health America of Porter County recognizes that we all could use some TLC in order to keep us well.

Mental Health America of Porter County is a small, not-for-profit organization whose purpose is to promote mental wellness throughout Porter County. We have been making a difference for almost 60 years. We achieve this through advocacy, education, resource and support services. We recognize that it can be hard to care for a loved one that is living with a mental health issue and we are reaching out to those in need of support.

Mental Health America of Porter County is launching a new support group for family members and friends of individuals who are living with a mental illness. TLC is an open, peer to peer support group that provides a safe, stigma free environment where individuals can feel safe sharing their feelings, experiences, and asking questions. We will be offering information about relaxation techniques, noncompliance, conflict resolution, mental illnesses, and other applicable topics. We will also be providing group members with lists of resources. Join TLC and experience an atmosphere where you feel safe working through and expressing your fears, frustrations, and accomplishments.

Our first TLC meeting will be held on Wednesday March 13th from 5:30pm – 7pm. We will meet at Mental Health America of Porter County located at 402 E. Indiana Avenue in Valparaiso. TLC will continue to meet the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month from 5:30pm – 7pm.

For more information about TLC or any of our other services please contact Christine Pirlot, Program Director at 462-6267 or cpirlot@mhapc.org.
