We’re Going Streaking!

No, I’m not going to go run naked through the quad, but I am about to make another selection in ESPN’s Streak for the Cash game, quite possibly the internet's most addicting game. Streak for the Cash is a great game to play online, and another great reason to follow sports. The point of the game is ultimately to win a million dollars. Each day, you are given somewhere between 10-20 options on prop bets on sports events. You choose one game or bet’s winner and if you get 27 in a row, you can win a million dollars. To give an example, the first 'prop' I chose was that New Orleans Hornets guard Chris Paul would have more points and assists than Dallas Mavericks Dirk Nowitzki would have points and rebounds (I won, of course. Lesson learned: never bet on the Germans to win). Believe me, though; it is harder than it sounds.

The game is free; all you have to do is sign up at ESPN.com to be eligible for the SFTC. I’ve played for a little over two weeks and have accumulated a record of 9-4-1 (with a 69% win percentage, baby!). The longest current winning streak is just 17 games, mostly because there are so many variables that can go wrong on a given ‘bet’.

For example, in a men’s basketball game between the University of North Carolina against Virginia Tech, ESPN set the bet at “Combined Points: Over or Under 155 Combined Points ”. Naturally, I chose the over, if only because UNC scores a lot of points and plays with a fast-paced style. The result: 154 points scored combined the two teams

Just one free throw could have won that game for me. Needless to say, I was heartbroken.

That game accounts for just 1 of my four losses right now, so my awesomeness in picking winners gives me some justification to keep playing to try and win a million dollars. The contest has been running for about a year, and no one has won…yet. I encourage you to give it a shot, because after all, its free, its pointless, and you can ultimately win a million dollars. Worse comes to worse, following Streak for the Cash gives you another reason to ask your significant other to flip on the Lakers-Thunder game on a Tuesday night in March, instead of thinking of ways to light yourself on fire while watching Keeping Up with the Kardashians.
