As we prepare for summertime activities Mayor Ron Meer and Chief Mark Swistek are happy to announce a generous donation of baseball equipment to the Westside Summer youth baseball league.

According to the Michigan City House of Hope Empowerment Association who spearheads this program, an unfortunate theft of their equipment occurred last year from their storage facility.

Director of the program, Alonzo Rupert, reached out to the Mayor’s Office and the Police earlier this spring for help as the league was on the verge of folding.

Additionally with the help of retired House leader Scott Pelath and Indiana Minority Director Kin Charles and staffs, permission was granted for this league to renovate and utilize the fields at the Indiana State Prison on Chicago St. with the assistance of the prison and their employees.

Mayor Meer and Chief Swistek are pleased to announce at 2:00pm today a delivery will be made to the Michigan City House of Hope Empowerment Association of baseball bats, balls, helmets, gloves and batting tees to assist in the operation of a successful youth program for the youth of Michigan City!
