White Sox Trade Thome, Contreras

According to Sports Illustrated’s Jon Heyman, the White Sox have traded Jim Thome to the Los Angeles Dodgers. In the exchange, the White Sox will trade Thome and cash to help offset Thome’s contract, and will receive infielder Justin Fuller from the Dodgers.

In another trade on August 31st. the White Sox sent starting pitcher Jose Contreras to the Colorado Rockies. In this exchange, the White Sox will send Contreras and cash to help offset Contreras’ contract, and will receive right hander Brandon Hynick.

The moves come as the White Sox remain just 6 games behind in the AL Central. The lineup can afford to lose Thome, as the Sox will likely move either outfielder Carlos Quentin or Jermaine Dye to the DH slot and move leadoff man Scott Podsednik to the leadoff role.

Be sure to tune in on September 3rd for the return of the Crosstown Showdown, as ValpoLife will have a Live Blog of the Cubs-Sox game.
