The Valparaiso WIC program is here to provide healthy foods to women, infants and children at no cost. They also reach participants how to eat better. Realizing the importance of breast feeding, the WIC program provides breast feeding education and support. If a patron has questions regarding where to go for proper health care, WIC can refer women to area physicians who will be able to help.
To be eligible for the WIC program, qualifications are required to be met:
- Pregnancy
- Breast feeding (up to a baby's 1st birthday)
- Non-Breastfeeding Postpartum Women (up to 6 months)
- A woman with infants and children up to 5 years old
In order to utilize the WIC services, in addition to meeting the above requirements, a candidate must also qualify for the program. To qualify:
- Applicants must be "at nutritional risk." The specific criteria and parameters that indicate risk are determined by a health and dietary assessment performed by a health professional at the time of certification.
- Applicants must be "income" eligible. Families receiving Medicaid, Food Stamps, and TANF are income eligible for the Indiana WIC Program.
- Applicants must live in the service area.
According to the WIC of Valparaiso, "Healthy babies are our job". If you are not currently on WIC but would like to apply, please visit the Valparaiso WIC Clinic at 401 Marquette Street. The phone number is (219) 464-9220.
