The third season of “The Sing Off” premiered on NBC this week showcasing 16 of the country’s top a cappella groups singing for America’s vote, just as the season two winner prepare to embark on Valparaiso. The all-male a cappella group, Committed, will perform on Saturday, October 22 at 7:30pm as part of the Fall Concert Series hosted by Valparaiso Community Festivals & Events (VCFE). The recently crowned “Sing Off” winners began as an Alabama gospel group that expanded their powerful vocal performances and soaring harmonies to include a combination of sacred and secular music including well-known cover songs by the Police, Maroon5, Earth, Wind & Fire, Lynyrd Skynyrd and Michael Jackson.
The second concert in the series will feature Turtle Island Quartet, a two-time Grammy award winning string chamber music group on Sunday, November 6 at 4pm. This all-string quartet is sure to dazzle multi- genre music fans as they fuse a vast array of musical styles and pay homage to legendary singer and songwriter Jimi Hendrix.
Tickets are $35 for reserved seating, $25 for adults and $15 for seniors, students and VU faculty and staff. A discount is available when purchasing tickets for both concerts together. Concerts will take place at the Valparaiso University Chapel of Resurrection and tickets can be purchased through the University Box Office online at valpo.edu/vuca/ticket.php or at 464-5162.
