Workforce Board Requests Input for Hiring Needs Survey

workone.gifThe Northwest Indiana Workforce Board and the Center of Workforce Innovations is conducting a hiring needs survey of businesses and is seeking input.

With our changing economy, the labor market has experienced some dramatic changes. New technologies, jobs, and businesses have been created, entire industries have undergone fundamental changes, and retirements were postponed.

As the economy of Northwest Indiana recovers over the next five years, we need to prepare our region for the large number of retirements which now will occur and the changing skills requirements which our youth and adults need to possess in order to be competitive for the job openings and new career paths which will be available.

To match demand for labor with the supply of talent, the hiring survey will help to identify occupations with the most number of projected job openings and the skills required to enter those jobs. The surveys will ask questions about the impact of an aging workforce, projected job vacancies, the most important skills required for those jobs, and other issues related to human capital. Results from the surveys will provide information to educators and schools throughout the Region.

Results from the survey will be shared at a regional conference for educators and the business community in February 2011.

Survey can be accessed online at the following website:
