Washington Township Middle School Academic Teams had an outstanding performance at the Indiana Academic Super Bowl-Jr. Division competition with Team Senator named the 2025 Class 4 Science & Social Studies State Champions.
The WTMS Science Team, made up of Charlie Peters (captain), Haleigh Peres and Porter Wilks won the Class 4 State title with 21 out of 25 questions answered correctly, which was the second highest science score in all four classes. This was WTMS’s state leading eleventh Science State championship in school history and fifth consecutive.
The Social Studies Team, made of Bronx Niloff (captain), Marley Calipari and Luke Freyenberger won the Class 4 State title with 20 out of 25 questions answered correctly. This was WTMS’s ninth Social Studies State championship in school history.
The WTMS English Team, made up of Mary Scott (captain), Viola Bane and Anna Drake placed third in the state in Class 4 English 21 out of 25 questions answered correctly. The Interdisciplinary Team, consisting of Mary Scott (captain), Lily Kooy, Bronx Niloff, and Haleigh Peres, placed third in the state in Class 4 with a score of 17 out of 25 questions answered correctly.
Washington Township Middle School’s Academic Teams have combined to win a leading 26 Academic State Championships in 20 years of competition which is the most of any middle school in Porter County and is first of all middle schools in the state. Washington Township was also named an Indiana Academic Super Bowl-Jr. Division Class 4 Top Ten school for a 20th consecutive year. “Ireland” was the theme for this year’s academic competitions.
