WTMS Wins Three State Championships At State Academic Competition

Washington Township Middle School Academic Teams had an outstanding performance at the Indiana Academic Super Bowl-Jr. Division competition with Team Senator named the 2021 Class 4 English, Science and Social Studies State Champions.  The WTMS English Team, made up of Madilyn Richardson (captain), Bri Flint, and Owen Nichols won the state title with 23 out of 25 questions answered correctly.  This is WTMS’s second English State Championship in school history.  The WTMS Science Team, made up of Jason Bunag (captain), Samantha Bunag and Owen Nichols won the state title with 24 out of 25 questions answered correctly which placed Team Senator Science as the best in the state from all four classes combined.  This was WTMS’s seventh Science State championship in school history..  Team Senator’s Social Studies Team, made up of Drew Gschwind (captain), Alex Lutin and Oliver Rodd won the state title with a score of 22 out of 25 questions correctly which placed Team Senator Social Studies as the best in the state from all four classes combined.

This was Washington Township’s seventh Social Studies State Championship in school history  and second consecutive.  Washington Township Middle School’s Interdisciplinary Team was also named the 2021 Class 4 Interdisciplinary State Runner-Up.  Team Senator’s Interdisciplinary Team, made up of Drew Gschwind (captain), Jason Bunag, Samantha Bunag, and Madilyn Richardson correctly answered 19 out of 25 questions.

Washington Township Middle School’s Academic Teams have combined to win 19 State Championships in 16 years of competition which is the most of any middle school in Porter County and ranks third of all middle schools in the state.  Washington Township was also named an Indiana Academic Super Bowl-Jr. Division Class 4 Top Ten school for the 16th consecutive year.   “The American Woman:  A Century of Progress, 1920-2020”  was the theme for this year’s academic competitions.
