Zosso demolishes Crusader record at Meyo Invitational

valpouniversitytrackinvitationalThe Valparaiso men’s track and field team had four athletes compete in the prestigious Meyo Invitational at the University of Notre Dame on Friday.

Justin Zosso (Chesterton, Ind./Chesterton) demolished the Crusader – and his own – pole vault record by 13 inches with his 4.95m/16-2.75 mark as he took the title by almost six inches. The title is his fifth in six meets this season.

Jacob Smutz (West Lafayette, Ind./Harrison) finished in tenth place in the weight throw with his massive toss of 18.17m/59-7, setting a new season best. Jacob Frey (St. Paul, Minn./Roseville Area) and Andrew Guzek (Valparaiso, Ind.) also competed in the event, finishing in 22nd and 28th place with tosses of 16.35m/53-7 and 15.41m/50-6, respectively.

Sophomore distance runner Adam Bruno (Bloomington, Ill./Normal) will be competing in the mile at Notre Dame in day two of the Meyo Invitational on Saturday, while the rest of the Crusaders head north to Chicago for the Windy City Invitational.
