The public is invited to attend a historical environmental documentary viewing of the film, A Fierce Green Fire - The Battle for a Living Planet. Hosted by the Valparaiso Chain of Lakes Watershed Group, this movie will be shown at 7 p.m. on Monday, July 15 at the Porter County Government Center. Relocating next door following the presentation, an informal Q & A discussion will take place with Aaron Corn, Attorney with the Hoosier Environmental Council, along with Larry Davis, a founding member of People Against Hazardous Landfill Sites and the provide of the film.

A Fierce Green Fire first premiered at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival and has won acclaim worldwide. Written, directed, and produced by Academy Award-nominee Mark Kitchell, this passionate documentary was the first big-picture exploration of the environmental movement. Narrated by Robert Redford, Meryl Streep, Ashley Judd, Van Jones, and Isabel Allendale, the movie spans 50 years of grassroots and global activism. The film is told in several acts, featuring archival footage and interviews, including Lois Gibbs, who gained national recognition for her environmental work.

A few noted reviews about the film:

"Truly riveting. A sweeping history of the environmental movement, 'A Fierce Green Fire' is both a cautionary tale and a triumphant one." - The Washington Post

"Powerful & stirring! A worthy reminder of how much has been done to help heal our planet's ecological woes as well as how much remains to be achieved." - Los Angeles Times

The main mission of the Valparaiso Chain of Lakes Watershed Group is to protect and maintain our lakes and surrounding environments through education, conservation, pollution monitoring, research, and invasive species control. The featured movie provides a historical account of the environmental movement, and is part of an ongoing lecture and educational series hosted six times throughout the year. Other opportunities to engage include workshops, seminars, lakes monitoring, and a variety of special events, including the annual Naturepalooza Living with Lakes Seminars & Festival.
