The Valparaiso Vikings won the IHSAA Class 5A state championship Saturday night, 35-31 against Whiteland. Whiteland opened the game with a 99-yard kick return touchdown. Valpo was able to respond to the rough start and going back and forth all night. In the 4th quarter after being down 28-31 Valpo converted on four third down conversions and 5’7” 150-pound Senior Rocco Micchiche scored the game-winning touchdown with 19 seconds left in the 4th quarter the Vikings take a 35-31 lead and secured the win. Valpo quarterback Justin Clark ended an amazing night with 3 rushing touchdowns while going 10-14 with 163 yards with 2 passing touchdowns. This game is being talked about as debatably one of the best IHSAA State Championship games in years.
