The Valparaiso High School boys' varsity tennis team advanced further in the Indiana State Tournament with a 3-2 win over Penn High School in the Portage Regional Tournament Championship on Wednesday.

The Vikings swept the Kingsmen in singles action, with Ben Kalisch (6-3, 6-0), Marty Pochop (6-2, 6-3) and Eric Cender (6-2, 6-1) all picking up victories. The doubles teams of Jared Folke/Peter Williams (0-6, 0-6) and Domi Szabo/Pall Baggett (2-6, 5-7) both fell to their Penn opponents.

The 16-2 Vikings will travel to the Center Grove Semi-State tournament on Saturday morning, where they will play against the winner of Warsaw and Culver Academy who face off on Thursday in the Culver Academy Regional final.

Update from Coach Matt Evans: Great leadership from our senior singles players and tri-captains today! Great job by all the boys. Every player, every parent, every coach makes a difference day-in and day-out from practice to the matches. We really appreciate the effort.
