Community Healthcare System to host Stroke Awareness Month events in May

Stroke is the fifth-leading cause of death in the U.S., according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. To help educate the public on the importance of a quick response to symptoms, Community Healthcare System is hosting two educational events in May, which is National Stroke Awareness Month.

Stroke Symposium

The free Stroke Symposium is from 8 a.m. to noon Friday, May 3 at St. Mary Medical Center, 1500 S. Lake Park Ave., Hobart. Topics at the event include:

Stroke & Diabetes Awareness Fair

The free Stroke & Diabetes Awareness Fair is from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, May 16 at The Center for Visual and Performing Arts, 1040 Ridge Road, Munster. Topics at the event include:

Both events offer hemoglobin A1C screenings and cholesterol testing. Fasting is recommended.
