Valparaiso Police Department CALEA Accreditation

The Valparaiso Police Department is scheduled for an on-site assessment as part of a program to achieve accreditation by verifying it meets professional standards.
Administered by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA), the program requires agencies to comply with state-of-the-art standards in four basic areas: policy and procedures, administration, operation, and support services.
This accreditation assessment will be held May 8 through May 11, 2010. Of CALEA’s 464 standards, the Valparaiso Police Department will attempt to show compliance in over 345 applicable standards.
As part of the on-site assessment, agency employees and members of the community are invited to offer comments to the assessors at a public information session on May 10, 2010 at 6:00 p.m. held in the conference room at the Valparaiso Police Department located at 355 Washington Street, Valparaiso, IN or by calling (219) 476-7955 on May 10, 2010 between the hours of 1:00 and 3:00 p.m.
Telephone comments will be limited to 10 minutes and must address the agency’s ability to comply with CALEA’s standards. A copy of the standards is available at the Valparaiso Police Department by contacting Sergeant Michael McLinn.
