The Chesterton Art Center is happy to host artwork from the Chesterton Montessori School Art program from March 11 to the end of the month. The Opening Reception will be held Saturday, March 16 from 2-4.
The art curriculum this year at the Montessori School has been an echo of the themes being visited in the classrooms, mainly, North American studies. This includes Native American art, Early & Contemporary North American artists, and the North American landscape.
The children's artwork will include 2-dimensional pieces in paint, ink, papers and pencils, as well as sculptural pieces exploring textiles, clay and paper.
Carrie Coslov quotes that she asks the students to, "always consider these three relationships when approaching art; art and self, art and history, art and culture. It is a very welcoming way of getting young artists to develop dialogue and to recognize how art effects them as individuals and how art has shaped our world since the beginning of mankind."
The exhibit will encompass work from students grades 1-6. For more information or for questions, please contact the Chesterton Art Center at 219-926-4711 or see the website at www.chestertonart.com. The Chesterton Art Center is located at 115 S. 4th St., Chesterton, IN 46304.
