The Indiana Basketball Coaches Association has announced its postseason basketball accolades, with Northwest Indiana well represented after another tremendous season of hoops in the Region that concluded with Bowman Academy bringing home the Class 2A boys state title.
Mike Schlotman of Munster is a member of the Senior All-State First Team squad, while Crown Point’s Tom Bardeson, Munster’s Nate Bubash, Andrean’s Skyler Moss, Valparaiso’s John Mosser, Andrean’s Nick Davidson, Lake Central’s Mike Miklusak, Michigan City’s Ryan Taylor, Merrillville’s Zoran Talley, Bowman Academy’s Antonio Pipkin and Merrillville’s B.J. Jenkins notched Honorable Mentions.
Junior Tyler Wideman of Lake Central was named to the Underclassmen All-State First Team. Davon Dillard of Bowman Academy, Larry Crisler of Hammond Noll, Chase Braden of Morgan Township, Hyron Edwards of East Chicago Central, Max Everaert of Kouts, Josh Fleming of La Porte, Drew Hackett of Munster, Matt Holba of Chesterton, Justin King of Bowman Academy, Gage Ott of La Porte, Keenan Simmons of Michigan City and Zack Van Hook of Lowell picked up Honorable Mentions.
Wideman was also named to the 2013 boys Junior All-State squad. He is one of the 18 players that will take on the Kentucky Junior All-Stars on June 7-8 and June 10 and 12 against the Indiana Seniors.
The Girls Basketball All-State teams have also been announced. Northwest Indiana athletes receiving All-State Senior Honorable Mentions are Sammi Adams of Griffith, Paige Aguilera of Boone Grove, Jessica Bell of Lake Central, Katie Bobos of Lowell, Keshyana Cooper of Michigan City, Mackenzie Kruetz of Lowell, Nicki Monahan of Portage, Dariyan Morris of Merrillville, Toni Murphy of Michigan City, Dariyelle Ricks of East Chicago Central and Emilie Ziese of Rensselaer Central.
Merrillville’s Victoria Gaines snagged a spot on the IBCA Underclass All-State First Team squad. Honorable Mentions were earned by Trina Coleman (Morgan Township), Heather Burton (Washington Township), Amari Ferguson (Gary West), Nickole Finch (Wheeler), Tiajaney Hawkins (East Chicago Central), Jaclyn Heath (La Porte), Nicole Malouhos (Boone Grove), Michal Miller (Michigan City), Caroline Puntillo (Chesterton), Grace Roach (Hobart), Jill Rosenbaum (South Central), Lauren Stokes (Kankakee Valley), Grace Withrow (Valparaiso) and Tara Zlotkowski (Lake Central).
The ICBA also recognized student athletes that excel both on the court and in the classroom with the All-State Academic Team. Nick Davidson of Andrean and Michael Schlotman of Munster earned spots on the Boys Academic All-State First Team. Boys Academic All-State Honorable Mentions were collected by Gage Abbring (Kankakee Valley), Cameron Chorba (Whiting), Justin Eger (Kankakee Valley), Nick Filipek (Whiting), Andy Franko (Whiting), Drew Heinhold (Wheeler), Tom Hildebranski (Whiting), Blaine Howell (South Central), Brandan Jameyfield (Highland), Shamir Johnson (Andrean), Daniel Keilman (Andrean), Patrick Petruf (Whiting), Matt Ruberry (Andrean), Brent VanSoest (Kankakee Valley), Brett Walters (South Central) and Collin Wojcik (Andrean).
Jessica Bell (Lake Central) was recognized as the lone Region player on the Girls Academic All-State First Team. Honor Mentions were awarded to Paige Aguilera (Boone Grove), Jordan Frasure (North Judson), Hannah Glos (Portage), Lauren Markovich (Whiting), Sarah Rivich (Crown Point) and Heather Zengler (Portage).
