Indiana University Northwest (IUN) is inviting Indiana University (IU) and IUN fans alike to join them on April 12 for the inaugural “IU Day”.
IU Day is a 24-hour celebration of all things Indiana and pride for the university. The day will feature giveaways, community events, and the chance for students and alumni to connect on campus and on the web to share in raising awareness of Indiana University.
For the IU fans in Northwest Indiana, IUN is holding a series of special events on and off campus you can join in on.
On campus, the university will be holding a “Thrill of the Grill” cookout for people to come out, eat, laugh, and learn about the university.
Additionally, the Student Alumni Association will be out and about handing out balloons, cookies, and other fun giveaways, along with information about how to get involved with Indiana University.
Off campus, IUN has partnered with the IU Northwest Alumni Association and the IU Alumni Association Lakeshore Chapter to get involved and raise awareness at hospitals around The Region.
However, for those looking to get the celebration started early, here’s how you can start showing off your IU and IUN pride, gain a little “socks appeal,” and help out your community at the same time.
In a partnership with the Crisis Center, a gift of $25 to IUN, the school is handing out a pair of socks featuring the school’s name and colors as well as donating another pair of socks to the Crisis Center, as a gesture of helping out others in need in Northwest Indiana.
“This partnership fits IUN to a ‘T’,” IUN’s Vice Chancellor for University Advancement and External Affairs, Jeri Pat Gabbert, told IIMM. “As community engagement is integral to the mission of IUN, this was the perfect opportunity to use the day to give back to our partners and the community.”
Anyone interested in purchasing the socks can visit the IU Foundation’s Fundly page here.
And for those who can’t make it to campus but still want to get in on all the fun of IU Day with IUN, follow along on the school’s official Facebook and Twitter pages, and be sure to get in on the conversation with the official hashtags #IUDay and #IUN.
