William D. Ling, 79 of Kouts, passed away Tuesday, December 5, 2017. He was born January 11, 1938 in Hebron, Indiana to Earl William and Leona (Prochno) Ling. On February 20, 1999 he married Norma Herring who survives. Also surviving him are his children Kim (Jim) Jones of Cambridge, Wisconsin, Donna (Tim) Hutchins of Lakeland, Florida, Jim (Cheri) Ling of Logansport, Indiana, Steve (Colleen) Ling of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Cathleen (Keith) Cole of Portage, Dawn (Lance) Bella of Valparaiso, Indiana, Sherri (Shawn) Schultz of Valparaiso, 22 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren, his brothers Paul (Lilah) Ling, Tom (Jan) Ling, Larry (Cheryl) Ling and his sisters Nancy (Dean) Jarnecke, Sue (Jim) Coberly and Kathy (Larry) Howe. Preceding him in death are his parents, his first wife Leona, his sisters Pat Laack and Kay Monroe, and brother David Ling.
A member of Laborer’s Union Local #41, William was a laborer for many years working in the steel mill. Later he was a security guard at the steel mill in Burns Harbor. Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Friday, December 8th at Bartholomew Funeral Home, 102 Monroe St. in Valparaiso. Wayne Manago and Chaplain Jay Birky will officiate. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until the time of services. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery in Valparaiso.
