United Way Family and Youth Day of Caring June 8 at Coffee Creek Watershed Preserve

United Way of Porter County invites the community to participate in Family and Youth Day of Caring on Saturday, June 8 at Coffee Creek Watershed Preserve.

Volunteers will help preserve the natural beauty of the Coffee Creek habitat through a variety of activities honed to their skillset.

“Youth of today are the leaders of tomorrow,” says Kim Olesker, president and CEO of United Way of Porter County. “Connecting our future leaders with nature and their peers and instilling a volunteer spirit within them at an early age helps keep our community happy and health.”

Coffee Creek Watershed Preserve is home to more than 400 native plant species and a variety of wildlife species including birds, butterflies, mammals, reptiles, amphibians and fish.

“This is a great way for families to unplug from technology and reconnect with each other,” said Katie Rizer, executive director of Coffee Creek Watershed Conservancy. “We could not do what we do without volunteers. Teaming up with United Way volunteers to help us keep the preserve healthy is a great partnership for us.”

Volunteering is open to families, children and youths of all ages. No experience is necessary. Parents or guardians must attend with children age 13 and under. Event is from 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. To register, visit unitedwaypc.org/FYDOC.
