Advocacy and Public Policy Workshop

The United Way of Porter County will host an informative workshop for nonprofit organizations on getting involved in advocating the work of their missions.  A common misconception for nonprofits is that they cannot be involved lobbying or public policy. In fact, they can and should be sharing their message and advocating their work to public officials.

Participants of this workshop will learn about:

  • Public policy 101 - What is it and why is it important to my nonprofit
  • An advocacy plan – How and why my organization develops a plan/guiding principles
  • Lobbying – What is it and how to stay out of trouble
  • Examples of successes and trials with public policy efforts
  • Framing an argument
  • Meeting with a public official
