Kankakee Valley REMC is a rural electric cooperative located in northwest Indiana. The Cooperative is located in Wanatah and serves approximately 20,000 meters and 2,100 miles of line to homes, farms, schools, businesses, and industries.
The Cooperative is seeking to fill the position of Director of Operations. The candidate must be able to perform management functions of organizing, directing, coordinating, and controlling the operations personnel activities involved in the construction and maintenance of the distribution system in accordance with established policies, plans, and objectives of the REMC. This will involve providing oversight and direction to direct reports in the utilization of technical resources such as automated metering infrastructure to support billing, mobile workforce tools to ensure completion of service order workflows, supervisory control, and data acquisition systems to support distribution operation and advanced system modeling for evaluation of distribution system projects.
The candidate must be able to develop programs, standards, and budgets for the operations department; oversee substation inspections and maintenance; regulator bank operations; recloser preventative maintenance; line inspections; OCR maintenance; pole inspections and power factor correction stability.
Additional responsibilities will include the necessary dispatching of work and equipment assignments during emergency conditions under the established policies, requirements and the authority delegated by the CEO or Board of Directors.
The ideal candidate will have five years' experience in an electric distribution utility, preferably an REMC, either by progression through the ranks of lineman and line foreman or in a middle management level position; an understanding of RUS specifications, substation operations, metering installations, and general knowledge of all distribution related equipment and procedures. The ability to develop and administer contracts in line with RUS is also helpful.
This position is primarily in a restricted smoking office environment. However, you will be occasionally required to physically supervise and work outdoors with distribution operations personnel which will involve walking. You may be required to physically be in awkward work positions. You must be capable of lifting materials, etc. in excess of 50 pounds; use hands and write reports and other paperwork and possess a valid Indiana driver's license.
A pre-employment physical, drug screening and background check are required.
