South Shore Line celebrates teachers with free rides

To thank local educators for their hard work, SSL is inviting teachers to ride the SSL for free July 24 – 30, 2023, on all off-peak weekday and all weekend trains (off-peak weekday trains arrive at Millennium Station after 9:30 am CST and depart Millennium Station before 3:30 pm and after 6:30 pm CST). To ride, educators will need to present a valid school ID.

Amber Kettring, Manager of Customer Service and Communications for the SSL, said, “Students in Northwest Indiana, South Bend, and Chicago are so positively impacted by their teachers throughout the school year, our teachers deserve to feel recognized for their hard work at shaping young lives.”

You can also take advantage of our Kids Ride Free Program, allowing up to three children 13 years of age and under to ride free with each paying parent or guardian on off-peak weekday and all weekend trains.

In order to accommodate construction for the Double Track NWI project, the South Shore Line is currently busing passengers between Carroll Ave. and Gary Metro stations for all weekday and weekend trains. Carroll Ave. to Gary Metro bus service will operate on the regular SSL train time schedule.

The South Shore Line is a commuter rail line operated by the Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District (NICTD) between Millennium Station in downtown Chicago and the South Bend International Airport in South Bend, Indiana.
