The Michigan City Police Department has completed our participation in the OPO traffic enforcement grant for the month of July 2017. We had 15 extra patrols working 37.5hrs of overtime, paid from a Grant issued from the Indiana Governors Council and Officers stopped 157 vehicles for traffic violations during the patrols.
There was one arrest with a Habitual Traffic Violator-6 Felony. Officers wrote 41 Citations, 37 Seat Belt violation, 1 Child Restraint violation, 1 No Driver’s License in possession, and 2 Speeding violations.
Officers wrote 117 warning tickets; 2 No License in possession, 1 Expired Driver’s License, 1 Texting violation, 3 Automatic Signal or Stop Sign violations, 2 Driving Left of Center, 1 Following Too Close, 8 Equipment Violations, 1 Expired or improper License plate, 4 Registration Violations, 2 failure to signal turns, 4 improper lane movement and 88 for Speeding violations.
The Grant has allowed the Michigan City Police Department to add extra patrol Officers on the street, Officers working the grant can also assist with several calls for service. Officers from the Michigan City Police Department will be participating in Operation Pull Over Blitz 91 “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” that begins Friday, August 11, 2017, and will continue until Labor Day Monday, September 4, 2017.
Officers of the Michigan City Police Department will continue working this traffic safety grants, including the Countywide DUI Task Force to improve the Quality of Life to the citizens of Michigan City.
