Rebuilt interactive Wall of Legends to be unveiled
One legend of the South Shore will be inducted on Thursday, October 3 at 5:00pm at the Indiana Welcome Center in Hammond. In addition to the induction, the rebuilt, interactive South Shore Wall of Legends sponsored by BP and Legacy Foundation will be unveiled. The Legends inductee was selected by a panel of judges representing colleges and universities in Northwest Indiana. Legends are chosen based on four values: courage, exploration, creativity and innovation. Past inductees include Octave Chanute, Jean Shepherd, Orville Redenbacher, The Jackson 5 and Dean White among many others.
The South Shore Legends Wall at the Indiana Welcome Center pays tribute to the remarkable individuals who have made a significant impact on Northwest Indiana. The digital redesign can now showcase an infinite number of Legends inductees, and a section of the wall is interchangeable, allowing a new legend to be showcased periodically. “As the space in the Indiana Welcome Center was becoming more and more limited, the 20th Anniversary was the perfect time to digitize the Wall of Legends,” said Phil Taillon, President/CEO of the South Shore Convention and Visitors Authority. “Now the stories of these local legends will be shared and celebrated for generations to come.”
The 2024 inductee that will be honored is Consuelo Ornelas-Garcia, the first Hispanic nurse in Northwest Indiana. This annual event will also honor an additional Legends Scholar from one of our local universities.
The event is free and open to the public. RSVP at www.southshorecva.com/legends/rsvp.
