South Shore Youth Orchestra to Perform Music by Mozart and Mahler

South-Shore-Youth-OrchestraThe young performers of the South Shore Youth Orchestra will perform music by composer greats Mozart and Mahler, as well as pieces with a cultural flare at their first concert of the season on Sunday afternoon, November 6 at 4 PM at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Valparaiso. The church is located at 1700 Monticello at Glendale.

The South Shore Youth Orchestra was founded by the leadership of South Shore Orchestra to foster and nurture those students who may not have the resources of orchestral training within their schools and to encourage the development and appreciation for fine music.

SSYO is divided into three string groups—from the introductory Petite to more advanced levels of Intermezzo and Venti. However SSYO is currently expanding and auditioning new students for the advanced Venti group and as well as adding Woodwinds, Brass and Percussion to the mix. SSYO looks forward to their spring concert being one with full symphonic sound!

Students interested in finding out more information or to arrange an audition, should contact South Shore Youth Orchestra at 219-649-1720. SSYO meets on Sundays to rehearse. There is a tuition fee, but some scholarship opportunities exist.

The leadership for SSYO is excited to see the growth and potential for this group. Music Director Dan Zeigner, Associate Director Jen Zeigner, and Assistant Holly Granzow each teach one of the levels. They are assisted by Ben White, Junior Music Education student from Valparaiso University, who helps coordinate and teach chamber groups. Ben also initiates other VU music students into roles they can assist and volunteer their skills towards for the growing needs of SSYO.

The concert tickets are $7 for adults and $4 for 10+ and 60+. Children under 10 are free. Proceeds go towards music costs, expenses and scholarship.
