 Each week we bring you 10 Fun Things to Do in Northwest Indiana so you are never without something to do! This weekend is packed full of fun, with the monthly First Friday events, rummage sale, an opportunity to see a new athletic facility, family safety fun, car care giveaways, fundraisers, and the return of the Chesterton European Market!

Sand Sculpting, Woodcarving & Poetry Highlight May First Friday Art Walk 
The Michigan City Mainstreet Association presents the First Friday Art Walk in the Uptown Arts District on Friday, May 2, 2014 from 5pm to 8pm. The Art Walk features many businesses hosting an array of artists and entertainment for free enjoyment for visitors.

Join St. Peter Lutheran Church for their 2014 Rummage Sale  
Head on over to St. Peter Lutheran Church Thursday, May 1, through Saturday, May 3, for some great buys and great food. St. Peter, located at 6540 Central Ave, Portage, will be open to savvy shoppers from 9 - 4 on Thursday and Friday and from 9 - 2 on Saturday. From party decorations to a piano, from kids' toys to clothing: books, CDs, housewares: there is something for EVERYONE.

Slicer Track Complex Open House  
The La Porte High School Athletic Department and boys and girls track teams would like to invite the community to visit the new Slicer Track Complex on May 3rd. The track teams will be practicing from 8:00 am to 10:00 am on the 3rd and would welcome the community to an open house at the Track Complex from 9:00 am to 11:00 am. Fans will be able to watch practice and tour the new locker rooms, press box and other areas of the new track complex at their leisure.

2014 European Market Opening Saturday, May 3 
The Duneland Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce the opening of the 2014 Season of Chesterton’s European Market this Saturday, May 3. From 8:00 am – 2:00 pm, Duneland community residents and tourists are welcomed to visit Third Street and Broadway in historic downtown Chesterton to experience Northwest Indiana’s premier outdoor artisan and farmers’ market.

Color 4 a Cause Brightens Up Valpo on May 3rd 
Color 4 a Cause (C4C), a 5K fun run and walk, will be held on Valparaiso University’s campus on May 3rd, 2014. The event starts at 10 am. A family-friendly event for all ages, Color 4 a Cause isn’t your normal 5K. Winding through VU’s campus for 3.1 miles, participants start out as a clean, blank canvas and finish looking like a tie-dyed Jackson Pollock painting, making your way through a course around campus as they are showered with five different colored powders, one for each kilometer.

VNA Stroll for Hospice to Stroll Downtown Valpo  
The Visiting Nurse Association's 13th annual Stroll for Hospice is Sunday, May 4th. Registration begins at 12 noon and the stroll steps off at 1 pm at a new location – Central Park Plaza. This year’s Stroll offers a new route through downtown Valparaiso, interaction with downtown businesses, a picnic in the park (including Culver’s Frozen Custard!), tented seating, serenading from the Hospice choir, a DJ from 27 Entertainment, raffle baskets, awards ceremony and lots of kid’s activities including a jumping house, crafts, face painting, and even a photo booth to help capture new memories.

Families Invited to Safety Education Day at Indiana Welcome Center 
As a kick-off to National Tourism Week, the South Shore Convention and Visitors Authority will be hosting Family Safety Education Day at the Indiana Welcome Center on Saturday, May 3. The Hammond Police and Fire Departments will be on hand from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. to teach children about safety. Events will include children’s fingerprinting, a motorcycle display and K-9 demonstrations.

Porter County Museum Gives a Glimpse Inside Historic Homes  
The Porter County Museum is happy to announce the first ever Valparaiso Central Neighborhood Home Tour. The Museum’s award-winning Central Stories Project gave us a look at this historic neighborhood through stories from its residents both past and present, reinvesting the places life is lived with meaning. Gain yet another perspective on this unique neighborhood, this time from the inside of seven iconic homes that will be open to the public for visitors on May 3 and 4, 2014 from 12-5p.
