February is upon us! With 2018 moving right along, the second month of the year has a lot of events happening around the Region. Check out the fun things to do this weekend.

Presentation on Chinese Traditions and Culture – Feb 2
Join us for a presentation by Professor Jianyun Meng, Director of the Confucius Instiute at Valparaiso University. Professor Meng will discuss Chinese Culture and Traditions, including the Chinese New Year. We will also be providing a sample of authentic Chinese food. Patrick's Grille Superbowl Party – Feb 4
Patrick's Grille is THE place to come and watch the 2018 Superbowl, on our 80" HDTV, or one of many of our TVs in the bar area! February 4th from 4pm-9pm, we will have drink specials, trivia, and giveaways & the staff will need your help to vote who has the best chili in our annual cook-off! $10 per person, with cash bar. We recommend calling for reservations, seating is limited.

Winter Bird ID – Feb 2
Many species of birds stick around during the winter times in Northwest Indiana. Join a park naturalist at Gibson Woods to find out what birds you may find and where to look for them. You make be surprised by some pf the unexpected birds that stay around when the weather gets colder. If the weather permits, we will take a short hike, and then return to Environmental Awareness Center to warm up in the “bird room” while watching at the feeder.

12 Angry Men” at Footlight Theater – Feb 2
The defense and the prosecution have rested and the jury is filing into the jury room to decide if a young man is guilty or innocent of murdering his father. What begins as an open-and-shut case of murder soon becomes a detective story that presents a succession of clues creating doubt, and a mini-drama of each of the jurors’ prejudices and preconceptions about the trial, the accused and each other. Hours: Thurs-Sat 7:30pm; Sun 2pm

First Friday Art Walk in Uptown Arts District – Feb 2
The First Friday Art Walk is a multi-venue event promoted by the Michigan City Mainstreet Association which focuses on fostering the arts and the artist who create it. On the first Friday of every month from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., local, uptown businesses open their doors to the public and host artists and their work. These “pop-up” galleries showcase anything from painting to sculptures, to live performances. Each month, the number of participating businesses varies and so does the artwork, so be sure to come out each month and see what’s new!

All You Can Eat Chili Supper at St. Paul Catholic Church – Feb 2
St Paul Choirs-Valparaiso AYCE Chili Supper, Friday, February 2nd, Church Social Hall 4:00pm-7:00pm. Tickets $5.00, under 3 eat free. Hot dogs available and bake sale.

The Price is Right Live at Horseshoe – Feb 3

Who is ready for the first swap of 2018? I would like to thank The Art Barn for providing us with our new space -- it you haven't been there yet, it really is quite lovely. Hope to see lots of familiar faces and some new ones too! Please share this event on social media or send to a friend who you think would enjoy participating.

Donut Dash 5k – Feb 4
A new twist to last year’s “Pajama Run”. You can still come in your warm, comfy jammies, but now we are offering you donuts as an incentive for getting out of bed! Donuts are waiting for you at each mile and after the run! Join us for this timed 5K run/walk or non timed 2K fun walk on the streets of Crown Point. DJ music & games plus Prizes for "Best Pajamas". Proceeds help our Hometown Readers program that gets new & gently used books to kids who need them. Please consider bringing new or gently used books with you to the event. Cost is $20 for adults, $15 for kids, $15 extra for shirts thru Thursday, Jan 28th. Event day cost is $30 all ages.
