The holiday season is sweeping the region with some great community events this weekend! You can always see all the events going on with our Northwest Indiana Event Calendar, but we found a few below that might get you in the holiday spirit!

Winter Night Lights Display at Sunset Hill County Park
Every winter for the past sixteen years, Porter County Parks and Recreation puts on a dazzling Winter Night Lights Display at Sunset Hill Farm County Park. Hundreds of different light displays from Santa Claus and his reindeer to dancing flowers are available free to the public for viewing at night between Thanksgiving and New Year's Day.

“A Christmas Story” Comes Home
This holiday season, the “A Christmas Story” Comes Home exhibit, presented in collaboration with Warner Bros. Consumer Products, will be on display from Nov. 12, 2016 until Dec. 31, 2016 at the Indiana Welcome Center in Hammond. “Oh Fuuudge!” Tire Changing Relay is an event that pays tribute to the events leading up to Ralphie blurting out “the-queen-mother-of-dirty-words,” will be held on Saturday, Dec.10. Parent/child teams will run through an obstacle course and prizes will be awarded to the pair with the best time. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m., and the event begins at 10:00 a.m.

Portage YMCA Evening with Santa
Please join us for a magical evening filled with food, fun and Santa! Games & crafts are located in Santa's Workshop, nail painting, hair streaks and temporary tattoos will be done in the Peppermint Palace and don't forget dinner in the Gingerbread Cafe!

Valparaiso University Celebrates Advent-Christmas Vespers
The annual service of lessons and carols is a traditional part of holiday celebrations on campus. This year’s Vespers will feature the artwork of Yeohyun Ahn, a computational graphic artist and design educator at Valpo. For the 7 p.m. service, the choirs will be joined by the Jubilate Children’s Choir of Immanuel Lutheran Church of Valparaiso, Ind. A reception will be held at the Harre Union Ballroom, adjacent to the Chapel, between services. All are welcome.

Small Town Christmas in Downtown Whiting
A holiday family-fun filled day in Downtown Whiting including Live Reindeer in front of City Hall, Photos with Santa at the Chamber from 10-2:30, Breakfast with Mrs. Claus at Winey Beach Café 9-1 p.m., and a Winter Warm up Tour at participating businesses from 10-3 p.m.

Santa’s Coming to Harbor Buick GMC
Bring the kids by and have their picture taken with Santa. He will be here from Noon till 2:00 p.m. on Saturday December 10th! Every kid (18 and under) will receive a treat bag, cookies, candy and refreshments! Bring the whole family for some refreshments, fun and holiday cheer! We hope to see you there!

Valpo Parks Touch a Truck for Toys for Tots
Kids of all ages will enjoy the opportunity to explore their favorite big rigs during this free hands-on Touch a Truck event. Complimentary refreshments, Santa, music, and more, makes this an event you won't want to miss! Please bring a new unwrapped toy to donate to local Toys for Tots efforts. Monetary donations also accepted.

La Porte Jaycees Ugly Sweater Party
Come support the LaPorte Jaycees and join our Ugly Sweater Party! Proceeds go to funding the Jaycees events such as the Easter Egg Hunt, backpack drive, etc! It is the in the bar area so must be 21 and older. We are giving away amazing prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place best ugly sweaters! Nutshell will also be performing at 9pm!

Hobart Holiday Market
Shop over 90 crafters and vendors in search for that perfect Chirstmas gift at Hobart's annual Holiday Market! We'll also have baked goods by our very own Maria Reiner Senior Center. The Holiday Market will take place Sunday, December 11th from 9am -3pmin the Hobart Police/Court Community Complex.

Uptown Elf Walk - Selfie Scavenger Hunt Have fun, find and take ‘selfie’ photos with an elf in at least 10 different participating shops in Downtown Michigan City! Be sure to Like and check in to each shop you visit on Facebook, and post your ‘selfie’ on social media with the hashtag #uptownelfwalk. There will be some great prizes!
