10 Fun Things To Do This Weekend in Northwest Indiana: Early Valentine’s Celebration, Charity Zumbathon, Spanish Cooking Class, and Spaghetti Dinner

Northwest Athletic Club "Goes Red" with Charity Zumbathon
The Northwest Athletic Club will host a Zumbathon on Friday, February 3. The Zumbathon will benefit the American Heart Association as part of National Go Read Day.

Unique Exhibit to Come to Southern Shore Art Association
For the February Exhibit, step into “Room for Innovations”, something totally unique for the Southern Shore Art Association, and get inspired by 3-dimensional design! You will find an artistically provocative room filled with exciting work consisting of handcrafted furniture surrounded by sculptures of bronze, ceramic and wood. Any of these uniquely designed pieces of art would be the perfect accent for any home. Join the artists on Friday, February 3, during the free Opening Reception at the Southern Shore Art Association Gallery from 5 – 8 pm.

Learn to Cook the Authentic Spanish Way at Don Quijote
Don Quijote Restaurant is hosting a cooking class on Saturday, February 4, 2012 at noon! Cost of the class is $40 and attendees get to eat everything you learn to cook! All the Sangria you want is also included! The menu that attendees will learn is Lentil soup, Champiñones al Jeréz con Jamón (mushrooms sauteed with Sherry and Serrano ham), Bacalao a la Portuguesa (Baked Cod Portuguesa), Pollo al Jeréz (Chicken in Sherry), and Arróz con leche (Rice pudding).

Valparaiso Sunrise Kiwanis Raising Money for Local Scholarships
Come and support your local Kiwanis group and get a full-stomach. Sunrise Kiwanis will be holding their first ever Slam Dunk Spaghetti Dinner on Friday, February 3 from 4:30 pm to 7:00 pm at Valparaiso High School. Tickets are $7 and can be purchased at the door each ticket will get you all you can eat spaghetti, salad, breadsticks, dessert and drinks.

Bottom Line Duo to Perform Classics, Pops
Join the Portage Township Live Entertainment Association for an exciting concert on Friday, February 3, 2012 at 7:00. Performing will be the Bottom Line Duo. A 300 year old Italian string bass, a 140 year old French cello, 18 years of marriage and a touch of humor all blended together for an evening of good music. They are the only bass and cello duo show in the world playing a concert of classics and pops.

Valpo Parks Open House
An open house will be held Saturday, February 4, from 9 am to noon to welcome the new Valpo Parks Youth Program Director, Phil Blasko. A special Saturday registration for Spring youth programs will also be offered during the open house.

Senior Art Exhibit at the Portage Public Library
Art from local seniors will be displayed throughout the month of February at the Portage Library. An opening reception will be held February 4th.

Homer Drew Set to be Inducted into Valpo Hall of Fame
On Saturday, February 4, Homer Drew will be inducted into the Valparaiso University Athletics Hall of Fame. The Valparaiso University Athletics Hall of Fame Induction Banquet will be held in the Community Room of the Christopher Center on campus.

Friends of Fishing to Host Ice Fishing Derby
This weekend is the rescheduled derby from January 21, at Loomis Lake in Rogers Lakewood Park. Check-in starts at 6 am and fishing will be held from 7 am until noon. Food, fun, prizes, and raffles will also be available!
