Each weekend we bring you 10 Fun Things to Do in Northwest Indiana so you are never without something to do! This weekend will give the first real fall feel in the region, so be sure to get out and have some fun!

PNC Homecoming 2014 Weekend Activities 
Purdue University North Central will celebrate its annual homecoming weekend on Friday, Sept. 12 and Saturday, Sept. 13 at the Westville campus. All activities are open to the public. Activities begin Sept. 12 at 5 p.m. with registration for a one-mile Fun Run. The fun run will begin at 6:00 p.m. Runners are encouraged to dress as their favorite Super Hero for this Super Hero themed race. Prizes will be awarded for best dressed runner as well as for the overall male and female race winners. There is a $5 registration fee and proceeds will go to PNC Student Athletics.

Don't Miss the Prisoner of 2nd Avenue at the Memorial Opera House
The Memorial Opera House production of Neil Simon's The Prisoner Of Second Avenue opens on September 12 and runs through September 28. A middle-aged couple living on Second Avenue on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, New York City has problem after problem. Mel Edison just lost his job and has to deal with being unemployed at his age. And it happens in the sweltering heat of the summer during a prolonged garbage strike.

Chesterton’s European Market 
Chesterton’s European Market takes place every Saturday from the beginning of May through the end of October in historic downtown Chesterton. From 8:00 am to 2:00 pm, visit us at Broadway and Third Street, next to Thomas Centennial Park. Come visit us, and delight in our artisan breads and pastries, boutique creamery cheeses, ethnic foods, meats, spices, oils, rare books, clothing, accessories, jewelry and fresh-from-the-farm produce and flowers. Spend the day, and enjoy live performances from the best of Duneland’s professional musicians.

2014 Emerald City Hustle 5K Run/Walk 
On Saturday, September 13th the Emerald City Hustle 5K Run and Walk is scheduled in support of healthy living. Start time is 8:00 a.m. at Duneland Family YMCA; the Y is open at 6:45 a.m. for runners to pick up their shirts, bibs and swag bags and for late registrations. The Emerald City Hustle 5K is classified as a Gold Cup Series Race through the Calumet Striders.

Valparaiso International Center's 6th Annual World Cultural Festival Set for September 13 
The Valparaiso International Center's 6th Annual World Cultural Festival will feature music, dance, and food in Valparaiso's Central Park Plaza on Saturday, Setpember 13. From 11:00a.m. to 4:00p.m., join us for a family-friendly day of food, fun and entertainment that will celebrate the cultural diversity of th Northwest Indiana. We encourage you to wear cultural or traditional attire to the event! Bring your folding chairs and blankets.

Downtown Dog Day Planned for September 13 in La Porte 
Downtown La Porte will host the second Annual Downtown Dog Day on September 13 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Pet owners and dog fans are welcome to come downtown with their dogs, stroll the downtown shops, dine al fresco and visit rescues and dog vendors on Rescue Avenue, taking place on Michigan Avenue between Lincolnway and Jefferson that evening.

Ready, Set, GLOW 5K 
Come get your GLOW on this summer! This night time 5k features several GLOW ZONES along the course to show off. Glow zones are designated areas where industrial blacklights will highlight your flashy side. The start and finish areas will also light up the night accompanied by music to your beat. Registration and the post-race party will be held at Quaker Steak & Lube right off the course with more music and more GLOW. Every participant will receive a neon shirt and finisher’s award. Some GLOW items will be provided at the race. Are you ready? Get set. It’s time to GLOW!

Garwood Orchards Apple Fest Craft Show 
Held in September on the second weekend after Labor Day each year, this is THE area event for fall! Crafts, arts, jewelry, ornamentals… it’s more than a Craft Show… it’s upick, the grill, wagons, horses, live music, the bakery - It is all that is Garwood’s!

2014 Portage Community Market 
The Portage Community Market will be held every Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. beginning June 1st and ending September 28th. Come and get great produce, crafts, and other items that come from local farms and businesses! Due to the construction of Founder’s Square, it will be held at Woodland Park for the 2014 season.
