Porter County's largest holiday tradition, Winter Lights Night Festival, will turn on the lights for the first time this weekend. Children will have the chance to meet Santa Claus, get their faces painted, make crafts, decorate sugar cookies, write a letter to Santa and much more. A student art show and contest will be on display, with everyone getting the chance to vote for their favorite work. Families will also have the chance to take a wagon ride to admire the hundreds of light displays that illuminate the park.
A Night in New York, New York
Enjoy the sights and sounds of Broadway. Imagine yourself attending a Broadway play, seeing the Statue Of Liberty, dancing at Studio 54, and walking through Times Square. Enjoy a fabulous evening with live Broadway entertainment, gourmet foods, open bar, silent and live auction offering hundreds of upscale items, and much more!
A Benefit to Aid the Homeless
Don Quijote is once again hosting a fundraiser for Housing Opportunities and Spring Valley on Sunday, November 17th. Last year, the event raised approximately $22,000- please join us this year to surpass that goal! The event will feature a buffet, cash bar, door prizes, and live music. This is a great cause and a first come, first serve event!
La Porte County Symphony Orchestra Presents Lights, Camera...Oscars!
It will be an evening to remember on the red carpet with a Hollywood party right here in La Porte! This red carpet concert event ushers in a new era as the La Porte County Symphony Orchestra presents "Lights, Camera...OSCARS!" Maestro Philip Bauman's Now Showing movie theme for the 2013-14 season will transform the Civic as the orchestra performs an array of epic scores from OSCAR nominated movies. This family friendly concert will include eight decades of treasured and unforgettable cinema musical moments.
Don't Miss Sweeney Todd at Valparaiso University
The Department of Theatre presents Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street in November! Directed by Lee F. Orchard with music direction by Dennis Friesen-Carper, Sweeney Todd closes out its run this weekend. The rare instance of a musical thriller, this chilling, suspenseful, heart-pounding masterpiece of murderous barber-ism and culinary crime tells the infamous tale of the unjustly exiled barber who returns to 19th century London seeking revenge against the lecherous judge who framed him and ravaged his young wife.
Annual Holiday Tree Lighting Celebration and Tank Ceremony
The Mayor’s Office of Special Events is happy to announce that the City of Crown Point’s annual Tree Lighting Celebration and Tank Ceremony is set for Friday, November 15th at 5:30 p.m. on the east side steps of the Old Courthouse. The community is invited to share in the free ceremony that will welcome in the holiday season. The Crown Point High School Choir will be performing many traditional holiday songs and a new hand bell choir, Harmony Hand Bells, will be playing some selections as well for all of us to enjoy.
Celebrate the 16th Annual America Recycles Day
Metro Recycling is partnering with Barnes & Noble to celebrate the 16th annual America Recycles Day. This free event will be held at Barnes & Noble in Valparaiso, IN on November 16th from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. This special event will feature a reading of “The Lorax” by Mr. Abe, from the Recycling & Waste Reduction District of Porter County, a visit from Glen the Garbologist along with Metro Recycling’s Scrappy the Turtle, who will bring Metro Recycling’s recycling trivia.
The Dark Side of Plants
On Saturday, November 16 come to Taltree to discover the poisonous plants that lurk in the landscape. Learn about poison sumac, poison hemlock, poison ivy and more!
2nd Annual Holiday Affair Vendor & Craft Show
This event benefits the Lake Central High School Athletic Boosters and is open to the public. More than 80 upscale vendors, crafters and businesses will fill the banquet hall for day of shopping and entertainment. Looking Glass Friends Entertainment will be onsite with their fairytale characters, so bring your kids and your camera! The event also features concessions, 50/50 and raffles. FREE gift bags will be given to the first 100 shoppers.
Benefit Concert This Friday at Calvary
This Friday, November 15, the Daniel Doss Band and Jennie Wellsand will be holding a benefit concert at Calvary Church! Come enjoy the concert and support Brian and Angie Barber, from GracePoint Church in Valpo, as they raise funds to become missionaries to the Dominican Republic with Kids Alive International!
