10 Fun Things To Do This Weekend in Northwest Indiana: Homecoming Events, Pet Adoption Event, and Oktoberfests

Each week we will be bringing you 10 fun things to do in Northwest Indiana over the weekend, so you are never without something to do! This weekend features homecoming football festivities, a party in the park, a brewfest, a harvest festival, Oktoberfest events, pet adoption, a wine tasting, a reunion, and more are all on tap for a fun weekend in Northwest Indiana!

Valparaiso High School Football Homecoming Game and Ceremony
The Valparaiso High School football team will take on the Merrillville Pirates on Friday, October 4th for their homecoming game! Be sure to stay for halftime as the VHS Homecoming Court is announced along with the Homecoming Queen.

Uptown Art District First Friday Art Walk Continues October 4th 
The Michigan City Mainstreet Association presents the First Friday Art Walk in the Uptown Arts District on Friday, October 4, 2013 from 5pm to 8pm. The Art Walk features several businesses hosting an array of artists and entertainment for free enjoyment for visitors.

Adopt-A-Pet at Nielsen Mitsubishi-Subaru! 
Nielsen Mitsubishi Subaru is hosting an Adopt-A-Pet Drive on Saturday, October 5, from 10 am to 3 pm. 12 pet agencies will be on hand with dogs of all kinds just waiting to go home with you! There will be free custom dog tags, free nail clippings, and fun for the whole family!

Crown Point to Host Sixth Annual Oktoberfest 
Mayor David Uran and Crown Brewing are once again proud to announce the sixth annual Oktoberfest on October 5th from 3-11pm located on South Main St. There will be food, festivities and fun for all ages with a pie eating contest, chili cook-off, live music, bean bag tournament and much much more. Porter's Perfect Pint Festival to Feature Over 30 Brews 
Join us for our 3rd Annual beer tasting and silent auction fundraiser, Porter’s Perfect Pint Festival, on Saturday, October 5th, 2013! Sponsored by Pat’s Liquors and Leroy’s “Hot Stuff,” you will be able to sample from over 30 regional and national craft brewers including some of the newest additions! Plus, take home a free pint glass!

"Gotham City Gala" Set For Harmony House/CASA's 19th Annual Food & Wine Tasting 
On Friday, October 4, Harmony House/CASA Program of La Porte County, Inc. invites you to be a SUPERHERO and make a lifelong difference for abused or neglected children in our community. Harmony House/CASA is hosting The GOTHAM CITY GALA - their 19th Annual Wine & Food Tasting to raise both program awareness and needed funds to continue their efforts to support local children currently caught in the court and child welfare system.

Portage Parks to Host Harvest Festival Fine Arts Fair 
The Portage Department of Parks and Recreation will host their annual Harvest Festival and Fine Arts Fair on Saturday, October 5th from 10am-5pm and Sunday, October 6th from 12-5pm at the Oakwood Grand Hall at Woodland Park.

Whiting Hosting 4th Annual Oktoberfest October 5th 
Just as summer’s festival season comes to an end, don’t forget there’s still one more! The Whiting-Robertsdale Chamber of Commerce and the City of Whiting’s 4th Annual Oktoberfest will be taking over downtown Whiting on Saturday, October 5th from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Whiting’s downtown will be decked out in its fall best with scarecrows, corn stalks and hay bales. This exciting event has something to offer the whole family and is a great way to kick off the fall season!

Party in the Park with the Firefighters 
How about a Party in the Park with the Valparaiso Firefighters to finish off a year of fun events? This family-friendly event will take place on Saturday, October 5th, 4 pm to 10 pm, at Central Park Plaza. There will be a dj, beer garden, multiple food vendors - such as: Sticky Finger's, Kernel's and Kones, Kelsey's Steakhouse, and Duffy's.

PHS Alumni Multi-Year Reunion 
Portage High School Alumni will host a multi-year class reunion on Saturday, October 5th at Duneland Falls Banquet Center. Anyone who has graduated from the school in 1988 or before is welcome! Classes honored that night include the class of 1988, 1983, 1978, 1973, 1968, 1963, 1958, 1953, 1948, and 1943. Hazel Bradford, a PHS graduate from 1933, will be honored, as her son Roger Bradford celebrates his 50th reunion!
