Start Your Independence Day Celebration Early!
Kick off your celebration with the Highland 4th of July Fest, with food, entertainment, arts and crafts, and fun for the whole family! The festival runs June 29 through July 4.
Duneland Ballroom Throws Grand Re-Opening
On June 29, 2012, Duneland Ballroom will unveil its new location, a ballroom studio double the size of its original space. To celebrate the opening of the new location, Duneland Ballroom is holding a Grand Re-Opening Party on Friday, June 29, at 7:30 PM. The party is open to the public for $10 per person. The evening will include a salsa group class at 7:30, followed by general dancing at 8:15. There will also be a professional dance show, live music, and demonstrations by the Duneland Ballroom staff.
Cornhole Tournament This Saturday to Benefit Relay for Life
Team Candy for Cancer, a team for this year's American Cancer Society's Relay for Life of Duneland, will host a Cornhole Tournament Saturday, June 30, 2012, at Uncle Joe's Bar & Grill. Come out and compete, have some fun and raise money for the American Cancer Society. You can help create a world with less cancer and more birthdays. All proceeds after prizes go towards the team's fundraising goals.
Motorcycle Riders Will Cruise for Kid's Cancer
Motorcycle enthusiast of all varieties will take part in the Hessville Eagle Riders second annual charity motorcycle ride on Saturday June 30, 2012. Riders will thunder through the area on a route that will stop at the Eagles club in Cedar Lake, Super Bowl Bowling Alley in Crown Point, Lighthouse Pub in Hebron, Dawg House Pub in Merrillville and the VIP Lounge in Griffith. The event will also include a community cookout featuring food, drinks, raffle prizes and music. The cookout will begin at 3 p.m. and end at 8 p.m.
Healthy Women’s Fitness
Whether it’s step, cardio, kickboxing, boot camp intervals, strength training or yoga, your heart and muscles will be challenged and your overall fitness level enhanced. Fitness classes are held every Saturday, June 2 through July 21 at Sunset Hill Farm County Park.
32nd Annual Brickyard Run
The Brickyard Run is a "Gold Cup Series" 5 mile running race that will start and finish at the new Hobart High School "Brickyard", the home of the "Brickies". The course will use much of the same route as in the past, leaving the high school parking lot, runners will head east to County Line Road, then south on County Line Road to 61st Ave, then west 61st to Hobart Road, then north on Hobart Road to 10th Street, then east back to the high school completing the loop. The course is mainly flat and fast.
Rummage and Book Sale
First Presbyterian Church of Portage, 6225 Lute Road, is having an indoor Rummage and Book Sale on Saturday, June 30, from 9 am until 2 pm. Everything priced to sell. Something for everyone. Shop till you drop!! Proceeds to benefit the ministry of the church.
Jaycees Arts and Crafts Fair
The LaPorte Jaycees are hosting an arts and crafts fair in downtown LaPorte on Saturday next to the farmers market. It is scheduled to run from 9 am to 1 pm.
Livin' It Up Music Festival
Start your off your weekend with a bang by Livin' It Up! Sunset Hill Farm County Park will be rockin' and rollin' with a live music extravaganza and entertainment for the whole family from 10a.m. to dusk on Saturday, June 30th, 2012. An awesome fireworks display presented by Dr. Tom Galouzis and BadaBoom fireworks will culminate a perfect day.
Chesterton European Market
The Market, which is open from 8am-2pm each Saturday from May through October, offers Duneland area residents the opportunity to purchase fresh produce, as well as boutique products from local artisans, chefs and merchants.
