Since 1852, the Lake County Agricultural Society has brought the Lake County Fair to Crown Point. This year, we have been busy as BEES, and we have a great line-up of family entertainment, shows and activities planned. We hope you will come to join us!

Beer, Food Pairings Explored at Strongbow
Join Strongbow for a special Beer Dinner on Friday, August 3, 2012, at 7:00 pm. For $30, enjoy four stations each featuring different beers, Wheat, Pale Ales, Porters and Brown Ales, and Imperial Stouts, paired with various food selections.

Meet Lakeshore PAWS’ adoptable dogs and cats during Harley-Davidson of Valparaiso’s Southpoint Cruise-In Night on Friday, August 3. Lakeshore PAWS dogs and cats will be available for adoption from 5:30 to 9 p.m. The free cruise-in night is fun for the whole family and takes place from 6 to 9 p.m. The weekly cruise-in night features live music, bikes, hot rods, food by Suzie’s Café, and a beer garden by Leroy’s.

The 33rd running of the La Porte YMCA Triathlon takes place at 8 a.m. (local time) Saturday, Aug. 4, at Soldiers Memorial Park in La Porte. The race entails a quarter-mile lake swim, a 12.4-mile bike and a 3.4-mile run. The course begins in Solders Memorial Park at the Stone Lake Beach House and winds through scenic LaPorte County.

On Saturday, August 4, Chesterton’s European Market will host its annual Zucchini 500 event. From 10am – Noon, children will be able to decorate and race free zucchinis in the crafting tent located next to the Market’s information booth. After adding decoration, children will be able to send their racers along the Zucchini 500 ramp in a competition for longest run.

Rockin for Renee "The Fearless Festival" will be held on August 4, 2012 at the Chanute Aquatorium located in Miller Beach. We will be honoring Renee's birthday with a day full of live music, food, beach events, and an opportunity for local musicians to perform some of Renee's favorite songs. All are welcome, young and old. Doors will open at 12:00 pm with a beautiful opening ceremony. Admission fee is $15.00 and includes a hot dog or hamburger, chips and a drink. There will be t-shirts and wrist bands, as well as other memorial items available.

The public is invited to the WWII Girls Baseball Living History League South Bend Blue Sox team recruiting event and exhibition. Meet some of the original players, who inspired the movie, “A League of Their Own”. Join the team or watch the action…whatever you choose. It’s going to be awesome fun for the whole family! Come in period clothing if you have it.

2nd Annual "1st Down and 5K to Go VPW Touchdown Trot"
The race includes a 5K, 3K Fun Run/Walk, and a 100 yard, "I Golfed, I Sipped, I Shuffle". This event is being held to support youth sports, community involvement, health and fitness and family fun. This event is sure to become an annual event for your family with a ton of fun race day activities including face painting, balloon artistry, a live music, and a post-race tailgate party. Fun take-away items planned for the race packets.

The Portage Community Farmer's Market continues this weekend, featuring organic produce, honey, flowers, homemade bread, herbs, grilled meats, Mexican cuisine, bamboo plants, organic cleaning supplies, homemade soups, and more! This Sunday, a free cruise-in car event will be held. There will be raffles, food, and music.

The next First Friday Night Movie is Friday, August 3, 2012. The movie to be screened is the warm-hearted, talking animal classic Babe. The fun starts on State Street with a classic car show at 6pm and the movie should begin at dusk, 8:45-9pm.
