The Porter County Fair opens Thursday, July 21! The first weekend of the fair features a wide variety of events, with New Hollow, The Beach Boys, and Trace Adkins performing at the Grandstand! Be sure not to miss a minute of the fun!
Mudathlon Series Returns to Northwest Indiana
The Mudathlon Series, a 3-4 mile off-road running event featuring a lot of mud, more than 40 obstacles, and a sizable post-race party, is returning to its Valparaiso, Indiana, location for its 2nd year. Mudathletes are guaranteed three things: mud, obstacles and beer – or, in other words, a race unlike any they’ve experienced before.
Second Jano Concert on the Square Re-creates Historic 19th Century Print
The Jano Concerts on the Square celebrates 175 years of life on the square Saturday, July 23rd. During the festival, a picture of citizens in front of the Courthouse will be taken commemorating the town’s storied history. The photo will re-create a classic 108 year old print of the majestic courthouse with 19th century citizens posing for it during a festival.
Iron Diamonds Vintage Base Ball
Vintage base ball played the way it was meant to be played back in 1858…bare-knuckle and with the utmost in good sportsmanship! Home game at Woodland Park on July 23rd at noon vs. Door Village Prairie Dogs and 1:30pm vs. Chicago Salmon.
Join Don Quijote in Celebration of 26 Years
Don Quijote Restaurante presents a Spanish and Classical Guitar Concert in celebration of the 26th Anniversary of the restaurant! On Sunday, July 24, 2011, two seatings for the dinner and show will be available at 4:00 and 7:00 pm by reservations only. A $10 cover charge is asked. The show will feature Ensamble Andaluz and AcoustiCats.
Lakeshore PAWS Adoption Event
Lakeshore PAWS invites you to find your new best friend at its adoption event on Friday, July 22, at the Harley Davidson in Valparaiso. Adorable puppies and dogs of assorted breeds will be available for adoption from 5 to 9 p.m. All dogs available for adoption will be spayed or neutered, updated on vaccinations—including rabies—and microchipped. In addition, each dog will be de-wormed and given treatments to prevent fleas and ticks.
Friday Night Lights
Strap on your light and enjoy the thrills of night mountain-bike riding. Friday nights at 7:30pm. Riders must have a good quality light that holds a charge for 2 hours. It must be mounted to the bike or rider’s helmet. All skills welcome.
Nelson’s Port-a-Pit Chicken Fundraiser to Benefit OE
Opportunity Enterprises will be hosting a Nelson’s Port-a-pit chicken fundraiser on Friday, July 22, from 11:00 am – 7:00 pm. Sales will take place in two locations – Opportunity Enterprises, 2801 Evans Avenue in Valparaiso, and Kmart at the corner of Calumet Avenue and Vale Park Road in Valparaiso.
Get Artsy at Uptown Cafe!
Along with offering an extensive food and drink menu, Uptown Café is the perfect location to host events. This Friday, paint with Michelle Pendergrass. She will have all the supplies you will need to get creative. Take your work home when finished! $15 includes all supplies and two 8x10 canvas boards.
Meditation Writers Retreat at Brincka Cross Gardens
These retreats offer an opportunity for an afternoon of reflection that includes a guided walk, seated meditation, gentle yoga, stretching and reflective writing. Participants should bring a yoga mat, towel or blanket to sit on, and dress for the possibility of being outside. No perfume or scented lotion should be worn.
