Labor Day Weekend is upon us! Say goodbye to summer with some great events happening across the region! Outside of these events, be sure to check out our event calendar, because there are always more things happening in Northwest Indiana, these just happen to be ten of our favorites.

Lowell Labor Day Festival  Join Lowell in celebrating its 97th Year celebrating the Joy of Dancing. This is the longest continuous Labor Day Parade in the state of Indiana. Food, live entertainment, fireworks and a parade are all part of the festivities. The Lowell Labor Day Festival will be held Thursday, September 1st through Monday, September 5th. The American Legion Post #101 will be hosting their garage sale on Thursday, 9/1and Friday 9/2 from 8 am to 3pm. The Legion will also host the Knights of Columbus Fish Fry on Friday, 9/2 from 4:30pm to 7:30pm with the beer garden and entertainment by Hoosier Highway.

Never Forget 9/11 Mobile Exhibit All ages welcome, no admission fee. The 9/11 NEVER FORGET Mobile Exhibit is a high-tech, 53-foot tractor-trailer, which unfolds into a 1,000 square foot exhibit and serves as a poignant reminder of that tragic day. The memorial provides interactive education; including artifacts such as steel beams from the towers, documentary videos, recordings of first responder radio transmissions and live tours by FDNY - firefighters. This exhibit was created in 2013 by the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation as a tribute to all those whose lives were sacrificed on September 11, 2001.

Enjoy Labor Day Weekend at the Portage Lakefront & Riverwalk  Visitors can enjoy the lakefront and beach, trails through the dunes, fishing pier and the restored 900 ft. breakwater. There is also a large pavilion with seasonal snack bar, restrooms and meeting space. The hours are daily from sunrise to dusk.

See What's New and Exciting at Zao Island! If you haven’t been to Zao Island lately, then you need to go back because there is a ton of new and awesome things going on there. The Wright family has been putting a lot of time and thought into the new and expanded attractions at Zao

Lubeznik Center First Friday  Back by popular demand! Recipient of the Chicago Cultural Department’s “Artists International” Award, Peter Aglinskas infuses his music with elements from the contemporary worlds of jazz, funk and rock, with technique firmly rooted in the classical music tradition. Enjoy Peter’s sultry solo guitar stylings while you peruse the galleries. Free admission & cash bar.

Ship & Shore Blues Festival  Ship and Shore Blues Festival debuts in the historic Washington Park at the Guy Foreman Amphitheater located in Michigan City, Indiana on Labor Day weekend. Considered one of the best blues festivals of 2015, Ship and Shore Blues Festival expands to two full days packed with more live blues entertainment, craft beers, wines, kids activities and more.

Rock ‘N’ Rail 5k/1M  The annual Rock 'N' Rail Street Festival will take place on Broad Street in Griffith’s renovated downtown business district. It features free admission, a fantastic variety of food vendors, arts and crafts, street vendors, family beer garden, non-stop live music, a KIDZONE and family entertainment. Music inside Family Beer garden until midnight every night. Also, check out the excellent bands playing on the bar stage (21 and over) during breaks on the main stage.

Northwest Indiana Cancer Kids – Labor of Love Porter County Cancer Awareness Day   An awareness day for childhood cancer: A walk, magic show, silent auction, face painting, food vendors, balloons, games and surprise guests. $15 tickets in advance $20 at the event children 4 and under free.

Whiting Park Festival Orchestra “Summer with the Symphony” Join the Whiting Park Festival Orchestra for a “Summer with the Symphony” evening concert at Whiting Lakefront Park Pavilion. This is a special Patriotic Show WITH FIREWORKS! The Merrillville H.S. Drum line is performing! All Concerts are FREE!. Bring your own chair and picnic basket!
