Lubeznik Center for the Arts presents new plays by local playwright and Purdue University North Central professor Jerry Holt. Professor Holt has written two new plays specifically for LCA to be premiered Friday, February 7. Wine, snacks--and two plays that will make you laugh and maybe--just maybe--give your heart a tug.

University Dance Ensemble to Perform Annual Concert
The Valparaiso University Dance Ensemble showcases the talents of student dances and choreographers from nearly every college within the university. This year's program, directed by Ann Kessler, features a variety of dance styles ranging from classical ballet to hip-hop, combined with creative costumes, light design and music.
Outstanding Young Man Tradition Continues February 8
On Feb. 8, 23 years after its beginning, the tradition in excellence of showing the many talents and good things our young men do and that these young men are positively involved in their school and community continues. Please plan to join us at 7:30 in the Portage High East auditorium for this fine program, the only one of its kind.
VROOM Valentines 5K
The VROOM Valentines 5k Run/Walk is set for 9 a.m. on Saturday, February 8, 2014 in Valparaiso. From the north parking lot, runners and walkers will take Campbell Road to Harrison and turn right into the Forest Park subdivision, with a few hills and loop to Sheffield and back to Campbell Road before returning through the north parking lot at the high school and into the field house, finishing on the indoor track.
First Friday Art Walk
The Art Walk will offer additional entertainment with a live ice sculpture presentation. Ice Sculptures will also be created on the following Saturday, February 8th throughout the District for the public to enjoy. As businesses remain open late that Friday, the public is invited to come and enjoy the many art forms and walk the shops.

The Purdue University North Central student improv club, The Ranting Llamas, will perform on Feb. 8 from 8 to 10 p.m. in the Mainstreet Theatre. It presents a unique comedy experience that is appropriate for all ages and outlooks. Comedy situations are made up on the spot and the audience is often incorporated into a scene.

Night hikes, a campfire, s'mores and… skiing? A sure-fire antidote for cabin fever, this two-day adventure camp promises to keep 3rd through 6th grade students busy with a mix of indoor and outdoor activities as they play and explore in Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore.
Humane Society to Host Hair-Raising Gala
Animals and fashion collide at Humane Society Calumet Area's annual Gala February 8th. At the event, sample an international menu featuring food from Italy, India, and the Mediterranean while sipping one of more than 20 wines at the event wine tasting or enjoying a complimentary beer provided by Three Floyds Brewing. After dinner, enjoy "Hair of the Dog" hair show hosted by Award Winning Stylist Ben Mollin.
